Social Studies

I cannot believe that the end of the year is already here. I so enjoyed spending time with your child this year. I would also like to thank each of you for all of your support throughout the year

We will finish working on state projects in class on Monday, May 22. Anything that is not finished at school by that day will need to be completed at home. Presentations begin on Tuesday, May 23.

4th May 12 2017 Homeroom

This Week in 4th Grade (May 15-19)

  • RELIGION~ This week we will begin to learn about the Magnificat, Mary's song of praise
  • MATH
    •  We will find the areas of rectangles and squares.
  • LANGUAGE ARTS
    • We will read the conclusion of the novel Holes. After completion we will be working on a flip book project.
  • SCIENCE
    • We will be describing static and current electricity as well as identifying and describing open and closed circuits.

Social Studies

Testing over all 50 States and Capitals will begin on Wednesday, May 17! Students were each given their own set of flash cards last week to help them study. Thanks in advance for all of your support in helping them prepare for this test. 

End-of-the-Year Project

  • Last week, students each selected a state that they wanted to research and present on. Project instructions and research guidelines were sent home on Monday, May 8. The research of this portion will need to be completed at home. Students will create their physical presentation here at school during our regular Social Studies class time.
  • Completed research is due back to school on Wednesday, May 17.

Social Studies Week of May 8

Believe it or not we only have three weeks left of school! We have finsihed our study of the regions which means we are ready to start preparing for our test over all 50 states and captials. Students will begin testing on these on Wednesday, May 17.

This Week in 4th Grade (May 8-12)

  • RELIGION~ We will continue with Family Life this week.  A Parent Guide will be coming home in your child's folder.
  • SPELLING~ Our Last Spelling test of the year!  
    • We will be spelling words with unusual spellings.
      • meant, routine, style, flood, month, pleasant, guess, women, either, against, disguise, sweat, magazine, guard, receive, wonder, league, type, ceiling, money
      • Challenge Words: plaid, onion, guarantee, rhyme, submarine
  • MATH
    •  Classify quadrilaterals using their attributes
    • Identify figures with lines of symmetry.
  • LANGUAGE ARTS
    • We will continue to read the novel Holes.
  • SCIENCE
    • We have completed our unit on Exploring Energy.  We will have a test next Wednesday.

This Week in 4th Grade (May 1-5)

TUESDAY: We will be watching the Jack-and-Jill practice game between 7th and 8th grade in the afternoon. Students will receive a treat from Kona Ice!

WEDNESDAY: May Crowning in Church after Mass

FRIDAY:  Annual Catholic Appeal envelopes went home with each student in their Wednesday Folder. Please have your child return this envelope to school on Friday, May 5. There will be a special collection at mass on this day. Today is a NOON DISMISSAL!

  • SPELLING
    • We will be spelling words with silent consonants.
      • half, comb, mortgage, honor, fasten, kneel, wreath, calm, answer, handsome, wrinkle, listen, fetch, yolk, climb, honest, knuckle, plumber, limp, folktale  Challenge Words: tomb, glisten, design, hasten, wrestle
  • RELIGION
    • We will begin Family Life this week on Tuesday, May 2. Permission slips went home on Friday. There is a box to mark if you do want your child to participate and a different box to mark if you do not. This permission slip needs to be signed and returned either way please! 
  • MATH
    •  Use a protractor to measure angles to the nearest degree and draw angles of a specified measure.
    • Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real-world and mathematical situations.
    • Classify triangles based on angle measure and describe triangles using their attributes.
  • LANGUAGE ARTS
    • We will begin to read the novel Holes
      • This week we will be discussing character development and setting
    • As an end of the year activity we will begin to write a class book.  Ask your 4th grader all about this exciting project!

This Week in 4th Grade ( April 10-14)

Monday: Stations of The Cross 8:30 am, K-8

Tuesday: St. Louis Area Food Bank FIELD TRIP!  We will be leaving at 8:30 am and returning around 12:30pm.  We will be eating lunch when we return.  Please have your child bring their lunch on this day. Dress in jeans and a St. Paul spirit shirt.  

Thursday: Noon Dismissal

Religion~ Psalm Sunday and Holy Week will be our focus over the next 2 weeks.

Science~ This week we will be learning more about sound waves.

Bonus Question: Last week in class we talked about the Holy Triduum, On what day of the Holy Triduum do we have Veneration of the Cross?

This Week in 4th Grade (April 3-7)

Monday: Stations of The Cross Presented by Fourth Grade

Wednesday : Faust Park FIELD TRIP! Please have your child dress appropriately!  75% of the field trip is spent outside (rain or shine:)  Your child may wear jeans and a St. Paul spirit shirt.   A disposable sack lunch will be needed, please keep in mind that Faust Park requested the students NOT bring a soda in their lunch, we may be eating inside the historic house.
